For over 20 years, CBIT has trained pastors and leaders who are serving over 120 churches and organizations across Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

What We Do

The church is growing explosively across East Africa. Yet cults and false teachers are pervasive in the region. The people of God desperately need pastors and leaders who have a deep personal knowledge of God and His Word and who are well equipped to teach, lead and care for them.

God’s flock, young and old, deserve godly shepherds who teach His Word faithfully.

Covenant Bible Institute of Theology (CBIT) is addressing this need by equipping pastors and other leaders for God’s growing family. CBIT graduates provide godly, biblically-based leadership in the Reformed tradition for churches and other Christian organizations across Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. CBIT students, faculty and staff are actively engaged in church planting across the region, with many CBIT graduates going on to serve in these churches.

What We Believe

  • We believe in one God, Creator of all things, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the divinely begotten son of God and that He is fully God and fully man.

  • We believe the Old and New Testaments, as originally received, were inspired and authorized by God and that they are of final and supreme authority in all matters of life and faith.

  • We believe that man was created in the image of God but that through sin he came under the condemnation of God and must be born again of the Spirit in order to be saved from wrath and reinstated in favour with his creator.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again according to the Scriptures and those who repent and trust in the merits of His atoning work are:

    • Justified and born again by the quickening work of the Holy Spirit,

    • Offered sanctification as the complete provision for the problem of sin through full surrender to God in Christ and the infilling of the Holy Spirit,

    • Assured of the resurrection of the body at the time of Christ’s return.

  • We believe in the blessed hope of the personal return of Christ to receive His bride the church to complete the conquest of wickedness in the world and to reign in glory with His people.

  • We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the punishment of the lost and the eternal blessedness of the saved.

  • We firmly uphold the Westminster Confession of Faith as a brief summary and logical statement of our faith, and are open to the beliefs of Presbyterian and Reformed Churches as long as they are within the limits of the Scriptures.
